Project Aim & Significance:
The project focuses on total clearance and redevelopment. The aim of this project is to provide a public mass housing scheme that would accommodate a mix of people across different economic classes in the same community without a sense of segregation.Ultimately, this will enhance the living conditions and quality of life of Lagos Megacity dwellers. The objectives of the Ilaje Urban renewal projects are;
Ensuring privacy while creating communal and interconnected spaces.
Economic revitalization of the local fishing community.
Integration of communal spaces for community interaction.
Respecting and maintaining cultural identity.
Creating a visually appealing and cohesive design contributing positively to the aesthetics of Lagos megacity.
Project Analysis & Challenges:
Ilaje is a residential and commercial town within Bariga and is bounded to the North by Gbagada, to the South by Akoka, to the West by Bariga and to the East by third mainland bridge. The site has a surface area of 127,037sqm and a boundary perimeter of 1470m. The problems on the site includes;
Lack of proper drainanges.
Flooding
Abandoned and Dilapitated Buildings
Dying Fishing Community
Poor waste mangement 6. Improper Urban plannning
Project Details:
The design proposed provides about 3000 housing units that accommodate people across different economic classes in the same community without a sense of segregation. with a focus on economic revitalization of its dying fishing community and the Ilaje waterfront jetty as a major water transport hub in Lagos state.
